The relationship between exercise and improved mental health is well-known and well-documented.
As an experienced counsellor I believe the optimum solution to most issues that respond to talking therapy is a combination of emotional and physical therapy.

I passionately believe that clients can achieve much, much more if they combine physical exercise with emotional therapy. For this reason, Rubicon Counselling is offering a range of counselling and exercise packages delivered through a partnership between myself and leading health and fitness mentor Iain Pritchard of 360 Heath and Fitness Therapy.

The approach we have developed is based upon the premise that both the mind and body each influence the other: Poor diet and lack of exercise can lead to lethargy, inertia and low motivation. Stress, depression and emotionally challenging life events sap energy, compromise the immune system and reduce willpower for diet and exercise.



The link is clear and recognised by the NHS which is advocating the prescribing of exercise in many parts of the country for the treatment of depression:



"Exercise can help people recover from depression and prevent them from getting depressed in the first place. Dr Alan Cohen, a GP with a specialist interest in mental health, says that when people get depressed or anxious they often feel like they're not in control of their lives. 'Exercise gives them back control of their bodies and this is often the first step to taking control of other aspects of their lives' he says."
